'The Theory' was written over the period of a year and a half, and represents a return to 'old school' melodic musical thinking. On this album, Gareth has taken an eclectic range of musical influences, primarily from the great Progressive Rock era. Then put them all into a musical melting pot, finally adding his own unique touch to create a truly original sound. Many have already drawn comparisons from Gareth's music, to influential artists, such as: 'Boston,' 'Pink Floyd,' 'Mike Oldfield,' 'ELO,' and 'Sky.' All of the music on the album was written, arranged and recorded by Gareth, except for a small section of 'Sacrifice', which contains an arrangement of Gabriel Faure's 'Pavane.' 'The Pariah EP' was written in the wake of Gareth's debut album 'The Theory,' and musically, is a lot heavier than anything he has recorded before. There are still many laid back ambient sections, however, these are now juxtaposed against much heavier guitar parts, which help create a greater sense of light and darkness. Again, all of the music on the album was written, arranged and recorded by Gareth, except for vocal samples on the track 'Destructor,' which were taken from a Cold War instructional video, shown to Children in America, to help them prepare for a Nuclear attack. The video is called 'Duck and Cover,' and is available to view at the Prelinger Archives. Take some time to preview tracks from the EP, available in mp3 format above.
